The Chennai Rainbow (LGBT) Film Festival showcases the best of LGBTQIA+ films which are internationally acclaimed works that fosters diversity throughout the world. The festival is curated and based on thematic sections, some of which change every year to reflect LGBTQIA+ issues and trends that are gripping the world’s – and filmmakers’- imagination.
It also explores a wide variety of issues and situations involving the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, gender fluid, binary, asexual and queer communities. Chennai Rainbow Film Festival (CRFF) provides an international platform for a wide range of rainbow spectrum voices and issues to be seen and heard.
Chennai Rainbow Film Festival aims to reach a wide spectrum of audience unshackling the class difference and provide a platform where everyone can come together with pride sans prejudice to celebrate diversity.
Chennai Rainbow Film Festival believes that the shared experience of cinema is a form of activism that has the power to connect people across borders and boundaries of all description.
The films we choose are designed to educate, entertain and enlighten everyone; challenge and motivate us. We hope we can participate in changing the world. We’re motivated by a deep desire to share the beautiful and important art we find in Queer cinema.
The films we bring to screen explore what it means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer across ethnic, nationality, class, and racial lines. In a world where we’re largely banned from public recognition, openly displaying the images of LGBTQIA+ people is a political & social act. The big screen is one way we can do this.
